My story

My Journey To Becoming A Therapist

My own growth through personal life struggles is what helps me relate so deeply with clients

My journey as a therapist has had many twists and turns. After my great aunt passed away in 1994, I became interested in hospice and bereavement work. My aunt had great fears of dying and was fearful of dying alone. This impacted me deeply. I knew if my strong, capable aunt had these fears, so did many others. I went back to school to receive my Master’s degree so I could counsel people who were terminally ill along with their caregivers who were experiencing grief and loss as well.

Over time, I came to see that grief takes many forms, not only for the loss of people but also for the deep bonds we share with our animal companions

Losing a beloved pet can be just as heartbreaking as losing a family member, yet many struggle to find the support they need. Recognizing this, I expanded my work to include pet loss support groups, providing a space where people can process their grief and honor the love they shared with their pets.

My first internship was at an AIDS hospice. During this time one of the young men was in the end stages of dying. As he and I were saying our goodbyes, he took my hand and placed it on his head and stated that this relaxed him. I could see how touch could connect the body and mind for a sense of well being. This interaction prompted me to attend massage school so I could offer massage to people who have a terminal illness.

I became more interested in the whole body-mind connection and how people can bring about their own sense of well being and joy. This led me to study and be trained in Integrative Body Psychotherapy.

My life experiences are what lead me to become the therapist I am today.

Helping People Gives My Life Meaning

Being a therapist is inspiring

I love guiding people towards positive changes and watching them transform their lives. The most rewarding thing about being a Therapist is giving hope when people feel hopeless.

I am committed to encouraging you to see healing and transformation.

I Have Compassion For People And Bring An Open, Non-judgmental Presence To Sessions

I have a natural ability to:

Understand people’s experiences
Help people feel comfortable
Inspire hope for getting better
Help clients heal their past and manage the present

People who know me often say that I am a good listener who can sit with people, even when things feel dark or hopeless.

Our Sessions Are Focused On You

Sessions will provide you with the
space to be yourself

In feeling safe and comfortable, you’ll be able to be understood and heard.

It’s important to me to provide a non-judgemental space where you can be yourself and create safety within session. There isn’t a “one size fits all” approach to Therapy.

Our sessions will fit your specific needs and concerns.

As A Therapist

I Embrace The Following Philosophies

I believe that you are worthy of love and care

I believe that survivors are not what happened to them

I believe that you can feel safe and free in your relationship

I believe that emotions heal when they are witnessed and validated

I believe that therapy should address the person as a whole – their mind, body, and spirit

My interest in the mind and body connection led me to study and be trained in Integrative Body Psychotherapy (IBP) which is an intense 3 year post graduate program. IBP is a mind-body therapy that integrates verbal and cognitive methods with a body orientation, breath work and movement.

I also interned at The Gathering Place co-facilitating Loss of Child, Loss of Parent, Loss of Spouse Bereavement Groups.
